Something Very Uncommon

There is something very uncommon about the Lord Jesus Christ; uncommon not as in peculiar, but very interesting and excavating. He does things out of this world! Such idiomatic expression is used to exaggerate an act that someone did. However, we couldn’t do it in the case of Jesus, because He literally does it. Look at the following. “Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind” (John 9:32). Jesus did this and the Spirit led the apostle to record it for our benefit. This is the God those who believe have on their side. In the entire Old Testament we never find evidence to anyone doing that which Jesus did. If we believe the above passage, we do not even have to search the Old Testament to find out its truthfulness. Such is the strength of the passage. Reading the Book of Ecclesiastes we find wisdom saying ‘there is nothing new under the sun…and what is has already been.’ Well, now we know it’s only in human realm and within the wisdom that man is allotted to know. With Jesus the same saying becomes limited, because He is not from this world and does things out of this world. What this further means is He brings into existence that which has not been. How wonderful! If we are believing in this Jesus, imagine the kind of new horizons He can lead us into. We don’t need proof. Belief itself is proof for those horizons to come to reality where we not only find new and better things, but also deeper intimacy with Him.

Often believers get depressed quite quickly when matters stagnate and there seems no way out. In worrying much they give the devil a huge opportunity to trick them into pursuing a way that is not in Christ’s interest. And then appear the consequences and so on. Even people that have increased faith sometimes go sad, although it is by being in the state of hope against hope. But when we just pause and consider Jesus, and especially the above passage, we can understand He has ways to make us rejoice. People with increased faith one day or the next quite naturally pause and consider Him. With these He desires they see Him from an angle that normal people wouldn’t; He wants them to expect something out of the ordinary. What is enlightening about Jesus doing something like opening the eyes of a man born blind is He helps us see that which we never saw or thought of or to simply put – mind-blowing! Opening the eyes of that blind man is the beginning of His evidence to the things He does for the building up of God’s kingdom.

If you desire Jesus to work for you rather than some man, entity or system, you need to go up a certain ladder.

  1. You need Christ always. Just as He was there by the blind man you too need Him with you right where you are. God has given an exciting and amazing way for it. “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear” (Acts 2:33). Only at the receiving of the Spirit just as the text reads can you have Him. So, it is utterly important you have the Spirit. You can test and see by conversing with the Father and the Son. You will know if you have the Spirit.
  2. You need two constants. “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (1:2). Grace to retain all the things you received from God regarding your spirit, His fellowship and blessings so that you do not squander them. Peace to remain stable in every condition so you are composed and free from qualities such as hatred, jealousy, greed, etc. Such bad qualities derail you from peace with God and men.
  3. You need real faith. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith” (1 John 5:4). Such faith secures grace and peace. You don’t need adulterated faith. You don’t need brazen faith. You don’t need opinionated faith, one that is with the precepts of men and the doctrine of church. You can obtain real faith by seeking God Himself who gives wisdom to understand Him from the Word.
